Sites & Attractions:

Don't miss visiting the Cathedral Square, the Christchurch Arts Centre, the Canterbury Museum, the Antarctic Centre and the Botanical gardens. Punting on the Avon is also an excellent way to enjoy a day in the sun.
For a slice of Maori culture, visit the Nga Hau E Wha National Marae.
Enjoy a meal at the top of the Mt Cavendish Gondola where you will be treated to spectacular 360 degree views of Christchurch, the mountains, Lyttelton, the Pacific Ocean and Canterbury Plains.
Don't miss visiting Lyttelton (just east of Christchurch). While you are there, why not go on a Lyttelton Wildlife Boat Cruise

Getting Around:
One way to see the sights of central Christchurch is on the historic Christchurch Tram.

Christchurch to Akaroa

Akaroa (approx. 1.5 hours driving distance from Christchurch) is a quaint little fishing town situated on the southern side of Bank Peninsula and is a must see. Many street names are of French origin because of its history. French Whalers purchased the land off the Maoris in the 1838 because the harbours were a safe sanctuary from the ferocious Pacific Ocean.

Akaroa is quiet, relaxed and perfect for anyone wishing to unwind from a hectic day in the City. For a little more adventure, try the Akaroa harbour Cruises which take you to see a Seal colony along with the opportunity to swim with Hectors dolphins.

Banks Peninsula is an extinct volcano which lies east of Christchurch and is characterised by its circular shape, steep sided hills that sweep down to beautiful inlets and bays below.
This is a great place to go if you are a keen hiker. Don't miss walking the Banks Peninsula Track if you have the time.
